Windows 8 Install Problem: Intel Network connection?

It seems to me that I am being told not to upgrade to Window 8 because nobody wants to deal with this software compatability issue. We're trying to solve this problem, please help as much as you can. I had planned on doing a clean install, as I have concerns about my current hard drive. Also, I am currently working on a similar issue http: Windows will partition it automatically and install on it. It's probably a little slower than it would be if I had a built-in Ethernet port in the laptop or a WiFi network in the house, but it works ok.
